Everything changed when the giant of the Hilltop himself, Bill Russell, arrived on campus at the University of San Francisco. Between 1953-1956, the towering kid from Oakland’s McClymonds High School transformed the Dons basketball program into a national powerhouse, winning back-to-back national titles in 1955 and 1956 and garnering every award under the sun.
There are standards, and there are gold standards. Russell was the distinction.
